Hartley Wintney Cricket Club is proud to announce that it has officially joined the Her Game Too campaign, becoming the first club in Hampshire to do so. As one of the oldest cricket clubs in England still playing on its original ground, Hartley Wintney has a deep-rooted history in the game. By joining Her Game Too Cricket, the club is demonstrating its commitment to ensuring that cricket is a welcoming, fun, and inclusive sport for all.
Her Game Too was founded by 12 passionate female football fans who, after experiencing sexism and misogyny within the sport, united to drive positive change. Their movement quickly gained momentum, creating an ethos within football where women feel welcomed and respected equally. Following its success in football, Her Game Too expanded into cricket, aiming to raise awareness of sexism, misogyny, and gender inequality within the sport. Her Game Too Cricket is dedicated to educating others on the importance of inclusivity and diversity, ensuring that cricket is a game for everyone.
Hartley Wintney Cricket Club is honoured to support this important initiative. Speaking on the club’s decision to join the campaign, Chair Ian Kerr said:
“Cricket has a rich tradition at Hartley Wintney, and we are committed to both preserving its history and shaping its future. By joining Her Game Too Cricket, we are reinforcing our commitment to making the sport more inclusive for everyone. We hope to inspire other clubs across Hampshire and beyond to join us in making cricket a truly welcoming environment.”
As the first Hampshire cricket club to support Her Game Too Cricket, Hartley Wintney hopes to pave the way for other clubs to follow. The club encourages players, supporters, and the wider cricketing community to stand together in making cricket a sport that is free from discrimination and accessible to all.
Discussing the partnership from HerGameToo’s perspective, Paige Caunce, Head of Her Game Too Cricket had the following to say:
"The Her Game Too Cricket team are delighted to be bringing Hartley Wintney CC on board as the campaign's latest recreational partner. As we continue our work to spread the message that cricket is Her Game Too, this partnership with the club is a huge step for us as it marks our first recreational partnership in Hampshire. We are excited to begin working together and for the club to be a part of our Her Game Too family."
Kerr added “We have a thriving junior girl and womens’ section at Hartley Wintney Cricket Club and will continue to support the development of the female game to the best of our abilities. We believe that cricket should be a place where everyone feels valued and respected. Joining Her Game Too Cricket is a step towards ensuring that outdated attitudes are left behind, and that all players and supporters can enjoy the game without fear of discrimination.”
Hartley Wintney Cricket Club boasts more than 300 playing members spanning junior teams aged between 8 and 17, six senior men’s teams and two womens’ teams.
