On the very last ball of their innings, Hartley wintney could not conjure a six to tie with Finchampstead’s 229 for 7 off their 15 overs. Finch might have scored even more had not Matt Gilkes lobbed a James Darnell delivery into the hands of Jonny Kerr after making 94 off a scarcely credible 37 balls.

Hartley Wintney’s top 7 all weighed in, with James Darnell adding another wicket 47 runs. But at the crunch, they just ran out of time, leaving finchampstead as the winners of the last Aylward Cup.
