RIP

As many of you will already be aware, on Friday 1st July we lost a very dear friend.

Brian , affectionally known as Barney or Lloydy to most , passed away in the early hours at Basingstoke Hospital.

He was born , bred , schooled and lived in the village for all his years. He was one of THE village characters, never short of a few words and always with a smile on his face ...in fact he had time for everyone.

He played cricket for HWCC for the best part of 40 years and was the outstanding wicketkeeper of his era ..a skillset that he used to great affect while between the sticks at HWFC. Post his playing days he was an enthusiastic Vice President of the Club and was until a couple of weeks ago an active Groundhog...he could cut that outfield quicker than Lewis Hamilton!

Lloydy was a tourist on 34 of the 40 (to date ) Hampshire Trouts Cornwall Tours - that made him the second most regular attendee. He was there at the start in 1982 and was there at the last one in September 2021. On one memorable tour , he announced to the rest of the party that ' there's only one thing I don't know ' ...when questioned what that was , he answered, ' I don't know '!

We celebrated a wonderful man with a minute's applause at our 3 senior games last Saturday and raised a glass or two of Cockspurs in the Club tomorrow evening....we will never see your like again.

Our thoughts are with his brother Roger and other close family.

RIP.
